• PAUL MCCARTNEY: DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE THE STEP MOM WITH HEATHER MILLS ON THE OTHER SIDE?

  • Where should I start??? Paul McCartney, age 68, announced his engagement to Nancy Shevell, age 51. This will be Sir Paul’s third marriage after being married 30 years to Linda Eastman and a tumultuous, 6-year marriage to Heather Mills. Heather and McCartney have one child, Beatrice, together. So, now, Nancy is facing being the step mom to a 5 year-old daughter and sharing custody with Heather Mills. Okay, let’s take inventory and a reasonable hypothesis of what to expect.
Historically, Heather has been a woman of great passion. She has causes dear to her heart like Adopt-a Minefield. As we all know, there is no bigger passion in life than your child. So, if Heather is like most bio Moms, she will be afraid. Will Beatrice love Nancy better than her? Is Nancy infringing on her territory and imposing her rules and values? Will Beatrice call her ‘Mom’? (No way!) This is the front where celebrity and ‘normal’ lives cross. I guarantee you that Nancy will be facing the same emotional dilemmas as any step mom in any community in the world. The Beatles money cannot help you here.

What are the chances that Beatrice will be hearing something about her step mom in her home? Worst of all, what are the chances that Beatrice will be asked questions about her Dad’s new wife? So, now what? Nancy, you can make Beatrice’s life a very loving place. Sit back and listen. Watch the dynamics, which will change once you are married. Let Beatrice know that you support her and her Mom and that you respect her special relationship with her Mom and Dad. Do not be with Paul at every outing with her. Let her know that you are open to her spending one-on-one time with her Dad. You are not an appendage to him. Find that subtle interest that Beatrice may have and create events around that. Positive actions and silence are your best friend. Good luck and welcome to our special community.
