How do the Forces of Nature Teach Us? The Evil Stepmother Speaks to Koelle Simpson, Horse Whisperer

On December 8th, I spoke with Koelle Simpson, the Horse Whisperer.  Now, why would I have a horses whisperer on a show dedicated to step families?   At the end of the day, parenting is about leadership.  Our greatest teachers are usually those that we least expect.  Ever feel as if you don’t know what to do with your step children or bio children?  The answer is right in front of us and it is an unbelievable honor to have Koelle show us the way.

Straight from the Tedx Conference in San Diego, Koelle returns to guest on The Stepmom Toolbox Show.  Life coach and horse whisperer, Koelle Simpson, offers a new perspective on communication and trust development. Her mission in life is to help others to reconnect with the amazing lessons of nature. Individuals are able to unleash the powerful leader within each of us.

I just listened to and loved the show! Barb, I really look forward to downloading the podcasts of your blog talk radio shows – I curl up in bed with my iPhone and listen, and it’s always such a treat. Thank you for introducing us to your wonderful guests – I have the web pages for Judy Klipin and Koelle Simpson bookmarked now and go back to them often. I loved hearing Koelle talk about the matriarch leader of the horses… Amazing. And your comments really made me think about who I “nag” more, my step kids or bio kid. The raw honesty of your comment about why you think you nag your bio son more (his father disappeared, etc) is so courageous. I think I nag my stepsons more than my daughter because their mom is mentally ill. A lot of people don’t understand mental illness but having a parent that is mentally ill is kind of like having an alcoholic parent. Statistically speaking, the kids are already at greater risk for not turning out so great, or having a lot of struggles in life, so I feel like I have to work extra hard and pay extra attention to help them overcome that. Whereas with my daughter, I feel like she’s just around me and my husband so, statistically, she’s probably going to be relatively OK and I don’t need to worry as much. I don’t know if all of that is good or bad. But Koelle’s comments about parenting strategies in Native cultures made me think I need to do a lot more with all the kids of helping them to listen to their inner voice and find their inner truth, no matter what it is. Thank you!

I was so touched by your comment. I cried when I read it. I hope it is okay, but I had Koelle read it as well because I knew it would mean alot to her also. I felt the same way that you do about my son, Ean. Because his dad left, I believed that he was at great risk. I was terrified. I am now thinking that the nagging was unnecessary. I guess we all struggle with the nature vs nurture question.
By the way, I have great guests scheduled for January that you are going to love. If you have any friends that you think would enjoy the show or like my site, please let them know as well! Thanks and Happy Holidays!
